DID YOU KNOW.....

Volunteer firefighters save American taxpayers more than $37.2 billion every year. Imagine how much your taxes would go up if the township no longer had volunteer firefighters.

Volunteer fire fighters have the same training as career firefighters, and are held to the same high standards.

Some famous Americans who served as volunteer firefighters were: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Adams, John Hancock, Paul Revere, Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, John Barry, Aaron Burr, Benedict Arnold, James Buchanan and Millard Fillmore also served as volunteer firemen.

According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), there are close to 800,000 volunteer firefighters across the United States, and the majority of this nation's geographical area is protected by volunteer fire departments. Of all the fire departments in America, 73 percent are all-volunteer departments.

America's volunteer fire service has faithfully served our nation for more than 300 years.

SAFER GRANT

Thanks to a grant applied for and awarded to East Windsor Township Volunteer Firefighters by the Department of Homeland Security, our recruitment message will be seen before every movie, every day for the next four years at the Multiplex Cinemas in East Windsor.  The SAFER grant was created by Congress in 2003, SAFER Grants are intended to help communities with career, volunteer and combination fire departments “increase their cadre of frontline firefighters … in order to respond to emergencies whenever they occur, assuring that their communities have adequate protection for fire and fire-related hazards.”

This grant award is a unique opportunity to help us get the word out in a big way to everyone in our community that their help is needed!  Please consider learning more about our fire companies and reading about our recruitment and membership plans by following the links above.
